Haley Fuentes, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from California State University, Fresno. Wanting to further my dream as a mental health professional I received my Master’s of Science degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from California State University Fresno.
During my time as an undergraduate I had my first experience understanding what it means to be an activist within the community. Learning the concept of intersectionality developed a sense of competency when understanding a persons life experience. The knowledge of intersectionality has followed me through my journey becoming a counselor. In my practicum at Fresno Family Counseling Center I was able to provide services to variety of populations across the Fresno Valley. As I continued to develop experience I provided substance abuse counseling services at Spirit of Woman. During that time I developed skills facilitating groups and advocating for clients. My understanding of intersectionality gave me a foundation when approaching treatment for each individual. It made me realize although someone goes through similar experiences does no mean treatment will always work the same.
My approach as a therapist is to build on my clients strengths and create realistic goals. In order to do that I believe building a strong therapeutic alliance is essential for growth during the therapeutic process. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe space where clients feel heard and respected. My style of therapy is derived from a Person-Centered and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approach.
